Description

This beautiful emerald green calcite is mined in Mexico. Kidz Rocks has found a supplier that personally travels to the mines and hand selects his raw material. He then takes each piece and meticulously applies an acid wash which melts a layer of the calcite, making it smooth like a polished crystal and revealing the rich color of this beautiful mineral. Virtually all calcite chunks sold on the market are acid washed but most sellers just do not tell you.

These are the highest quality calcite chunks you will find and not the run of the mill lower quality poorly processed stuff others sell. Only the best at Kidz Rocks!

Mineral Description
Calcite is truly one of the best collection type crystals. There are lots of interesting forms and varieties as well as colorful and beautiful crystals to collect. It is generally easy to identify using its rhombohedral cleavage and reaction to acid and makes for a great classroom example of these properties.The name Calcite is from the Greek word “chalx” which means “lime”.

Environmentally, calcite is very important and may have been quite important to the successful development of our planet in the past. By pulling carbon dioxide out of the sea water, this biological activity allows more of the carbon dioxide in the air to dissolve in the sea water and thus acts as a carbon dioxide filter for the planet.

With its many different forms, environments, associations and colors, a collector could never have all possible combinations of calcite covered. Calcite is among the most varied and abundant crystals, and they happen in a variety of forms and colors.
