Fossil Description
The region around Khouribga, Morocco is known as the phosphate plateau. The phosphate mines have exposed a wealth of marine fossils dating from the Cretaceous to Eocene ages (110-35 million years ago). Shark teeth from this location are a creamy white to butterscotch colored and exhibit great preservation.

These teeth are from the species Otodus obliquus, the king of the early Eocene, approximately 50-55 million years ago.The teeth of this shark are large with triangular crown, smooth cutting edges, and visible cusps on the roots. This shark was the Great Grandfather of the Megalodon (Carcharocles megalodon)

Otodus is an extinct genus of mackerel shark which lived from the Paleocene to the Miocene epoch, The name Otodus comes from Greek  «ÿ?? (o?¯s “ear”) and  «????¨???, “odous (tooth)”, or “ear-shaped tooth”.

It was a very large macro-predatory shark. The largest known teeth measure about 4 inches in height. Scientists suggest that this shark at least reached 30 feet to 40 feet long.
