This soft white to cream colored onyx was mined at Mount Nebo in Duchesne County, Utah. It has unique soft mix of colors and some with banding.

You will receive one specimen from the lot shown that is 4 inch to 5 inch and weighs 14 ounces to 1 pound 4 ounces.

Mineral Description
There are many types of Onyx out there, but White Onyx is truly special. According to Greek lore, this stone came to be when the god Eros clipped the nails of the goddess Aphrodite. As the nails fell to Earth, they turned into Onyx. Interestingly enough, the word ƒ??Onyxƒ? translates to ƒ??fingernailƒ? or ƒ??clawƒ? in Greek.

Onyx primarily refers to the parallel banded variety of the silicate mineral chalcedony. Agate and onyx are both varieties of layered chalcedony that differ only in the form of the bands: agate has curved bands and onyx has parallel bands. The colors of its bands range from black to almost every color. Onyx is formed of bands of chalcedony in alternating colors.
