Trilobite fossils have been found in human cultural sites as old as 50,000 years and may have been the first fossils ever collected. Ancient Egyptian, Greek, and Roman tombs have yielded trilobite fossils with drill holes indicating that they were worn as amulets. Metaphysical practitioners believe that trilobite fossils promote leadership and management skills, and assist in development of strength and perseverance.
The trilobite can promote both leadership and management skills, allowing one to rule lovingly and with patience and fortitude. It assists in the development of patience, strength, and perseverance, allowing one to recognize the desired course and to maintain the pathway which will produce the desired goal. It is an example for humanity that one may be in charge of the world, and still, virtually, be required to "sit in the mud".
Trilobites, meaning "three lobes", are a fossil group of extinct marine arachnomorph arthropods that form the class Trilobita. Trilobites form one of the earliest known groups of arthropods. The first appearance of trilobites in the fossil record defines the base of the Atdabanian stage of the Early Cambrian period (521 million years ago), and they flourished throughout the lower Paleozoic era before beginning a drawn-out decline to extinction when, during the Devonian, all trilobite orders except the Proetids died out. Trilobites disappeared in the mass extinction at the end of the Permian about 252 million years ago. The trilobites were among the most successful of all early animals, roaming the oceans for over 270 million years.
Over 20,000 species are currently known. Every single continent has yielded trilobite remains. The biggest species (Isotelus rex) was some 28 inches long, while the smallest measured less than a millimeter from end to end. Some sported defensive spines, while others had smooth, rounded shells. And whereas certain trilobites came with disproportionately large eyes, many deep-sea species were blind.
Long before Europeans first set foot on the continent, the Pahvant Ute people, from what is now called Utah, gathered Cambrian trilobites. Believing that the fossils harbored special powers, the natives carried them around as protective charms. These odd, petrified critters were given the name “Timpe-Konitza-Pachuee,” or “little water bug living in a house of stone.”

While many stores do not disclose treatments done to certain types of minerals after they are mined, we disclose all treatments in our listing descriptions. If the product listing does not say it was treated then it is a 100% natural rock just as it came out of the ground. Treatments are not always something to shy away from as some do. Many treatments simply reproduce the exact same process that mother nature uses and/or cleans the specimen so it may be enjoyed.
